HIKKING ON THE CAMINO DE CRUCES

The Canyon Trail is a scenic path leading to the Camino de Cruces Park Visitor Center. This trail offers a unique opportunity to explore the lush tropical forest and observe the diverse wildlife that inhabits the area. As you walk along the trail, you will encounter various species of birds, mammals, and reptiles, making it an excellent spot for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers. The trail is moderately challenging, with some steep sections and river crossings, especially during the rainy season. The Visitor Center provides information about the park's history, biodiversity, and conservation efforts, making it an excellent adventure that immerses you in both history and nature.

DEPARTURE AND RETURN POINT

We leave the Canyon sector in Camino de Cruces National Park via Madden Road or Forest Road at 8:00 AM and arrive at the Visitor Center at 11:30 AM.

 

Or in the afternoon between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

 

If you require transportation from downtown Panama City, the cost is USD 35.00 per person. Children pay USD 15.00.

 

The tour can be extended for two hours passing through MERCA PANAMA and returning by public bus to the bus terminal in Albrook for an additional cost of $10.00 per person.

Hiking the Cruces Trail

Get ready for a thrilling hike through history and nature on the Cañones Trail, a scenic route leading to the Camino de Cruces National Park Visitor Center. This 8 km trail winds through the lush tropical rainforest, offering incredible views, rich biodiversity, and a glimpse into Panama’s past.

A Journey Through Nature & History

This historic path was once part of the Camino de Cruces, an important trade route used during the Spanish colonial era. Today, it’s a paradise for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and adventure seekers. Along the way, you’ll encounter:

Colorful tropical birds and diverse wildlife
Towering rainforest trees and exotic plants
River crossings and moderate inclines for a fun challenge
A visit to the Camino de Cruces Visitor Center, where you’ll learn about the park’s conservation efforts and history

What to Bring & Important Tips

Pets: Dogs are not allowed in national parks
Restroom Facilities: Public restrooms are available at the Visitor Center at the end of the hike
